Most hospitals nowadays are very strict and will not allow any nail polish, makeup, or even cancer wigs. The reasoning for all of these is sound, however it can make women very uncomfortable.

You will be given a surgical cap before you go into surgery and most hospitals will not allow you to wear your wig underneath it. Surprisingly enough, many women are more mortified when they wake up from surgery that they aren’t wearing a wig than they are concerned about how their surgery went!

For those who would like to remain seen with their wig on there are a few things they can do. First, wear your wig until the very last moment. Speak to your recovery room nurse before your surgery. This will be the person who wheels you from the recovery room to your more permanent room. Ask them if they would mind replacing your wig after surgery even if you’re still sleeping. This can help calm your fears and most nurses are more than willing to help.

The first thing to remember is that you should always trim your wig while you’re wearing it. If you don’t do this you might end up cutting the wig too short for your face or to your liking, and unfortunately wig hair doesn’t grow back if you get a bad haircut!

Secondly, get yourself a pair of trimming shears. Don’t use regular kitchen or craft scissors. This can lead to huge mistakes and ruin a perfectly good wig. Invest in a good pair of trimming shears and they’ll last you a long time.

Third, always trim the hair slightly longer than you think you want it. That way you can fix any mistakes that you make without making everything too short for your tastes.

After you’ve finished trimming the wig while it’s on your head, take it off and put it on a wig stand. This way you can see if there are places you missed and need to touch up.

First of all, make sure that your human hair wig is of good quality and that it’s actually permable. Many wigs for women are straight styles. Sometimes this means that the hair has actually been treated to stay straight and will not take curl well at all. They have been treated with a hydroxide based relaxer that will not perm no matter how hard you try. Also, some types of human hair don’t take curl well naturally. So this means that even if your wig has not been treated it might not take curl. Keep all of this information in mind when you go in to purchase a wig and make sure you ask as many questions as you can of the seller so that you have all the pertinent info that you need. Also, make sure that you know if the hair used in your wig has been color treated because you will need to select a perm formula specifically for color treated hair.

Now that summer has arrived you may feel your head sweating a bit under that long, full wig for women. Many women complain about sweaty necks, hot ears, and other problems that arise with having long hair in the summer. Thankfully, wig wearing women can switch out their long winter do-s for a shorter, summer cut.

A low maintenance, short, human hair wig can offer you a great new look for summer. Short hair is back in style because it is cute, sassy and assertive. Not to mention extremely practical during the summer. It will go great with shorter, summer skirts and sleeveless shirts. It’s a radical change from a long wig, but one worth checking out.

If you do already find evidence of split ends, for the time being you can do a cold water rinse through that will help reduce the appearance. You just need to be extra careful with split ends on wigs because in the end, they can’t grow out and fix themselves.

Cornstarch based baby powder can be a life saver on really hot days. Sprinkle a little of the baby powder on your scalp before you put on your wig. Through the day, the cornstarch will soak up the sweat and leave your head feeling fresh and clean. The baby powder element will keep your skin from drying out or getting irritated.

I don’t think they had any idea how much this would change the modern view on wearing a wig. Not only did it make it fashionable but it made it acceptable. If the fashion models could wear it and look good, why couldn’t everyone else?

In modern times, there are still models that wear wigs on the runway. It makes it easier for them to conform to a look that the designer has in mind without altering their appearance in a semi-permanent way. It is with wigs that a person can create for themselves a new look for a short period of time. Again, this makes them perfect for the modeling runway.

First, know this, you should regularly wash your wig. One of the things you can do to keep it shiny and bright is use a conditioner. Be sure not to over condition though! Over conditioning your hair can actually cause an unnatural over brightness and lead to excessive tangling.

Other ways to avoid tangling during the upkeep of your wig include proper washing technique. Don’t mix it all together like you would with regular hair. This will cause an inordinate amount of tangling that will take extra styling and care to get out. You should wash in a downward motion and never wash without a foam head or without wearing it.

Try not to over rub the web or cap of the wig. This will cause the need for more maintenance and possibly a professional wig maker.

Quality wigs are important but something else you should consider is diversity. One day you may want to be a redhead with a short pixie haircut for a baby shower or a christening. The next day you may want to have long blonde hair to go to church or to temple. This kind of diversity in your wig collection is very helpful for looking and feeling your best for big occasions or from day to day!

Men like to say that women are fickle and can’t make up their minds, but when you have this many choices, who could blame you for taking awhile to choose. It’s sort of freeing for you to wake up in the morning and have the choice to pick what you’ll look like that day.

It’s a new technique called “rooting.” Many people are starting to dye their human hair wigs just at the roots to mimic the look of real hair growth. It’s a semi involved process but I have faith that you can do it at home.

It comprises several steps. The first is sealing the lace on the wig so it doesn’t bleed. You can do this with wig styling glue. You only need to seal the area near where you’re going to dye it, near the part in the hair. After that, tinfoil your hair in pieces. You will dye the roots similar to dying highlights. This will insure that, while it looks like your hair is growing, there won’t be a solid line of dye near the part.
